Purpose
As a Scrum Master, you will be a servant leader for cross-functional, agile development Teams. You will work with the business owner and product team to turn the vision for new products into clear stories and requirements, with developers and QA analysts to produce the software, and with Operations to manage regular deployments of software releases. You will foster an environment of collaboration and communication while reinforcing our culture of transparency, integrity, and accountability. You will jump in and contribute where the Team has needs, whether it be removing impediments, writing documentation, analyzing requirements, supplemental testing, or adding value in your own, unique way. In short, you will be the ultimate servant leader accountable for maximizing the value provided by the team, including team throughput and productivity.
Overall Responsibilities
- Is a subject matter expert on Scrum and Agile practices with the ability to train non-Agile team members on best practices.
- Must be self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks as delegated.
- Serve as liaison between technical and non-technical departments.
- Communicate with other management, developers, product managers, and technical support specialists on product issues.
- Must be a team player with the ability to work within a collaborative environment.
Supporting the Development Team
- Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings.
- Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress.
- Maintain process documentation.
- Ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility.
- Assist in the estimation of project resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Drive to continuously improve the team’s process.
Supporting the Product Owner
- Assist as needed with backlog maintenance.
- Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
- Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects/bugs.
Supporting the Product Team
- Assist team with making appropriate commitments through story selection, task definition.
- Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards, tools, and best practices.
- Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution.
- Empower the team to self-organize.
Supporting the Development Manager
- Provide metrics (through Rally) to the Development manager. Some of the metrics include the number of defects found in QA and Class A, their classification, trends, etc.
- Work with the Development manager on project priorities, product backlog, and sprint logs.
- Work with the Scrum teams, Product Owner, and the Development Manager to ensure the projects are delivered on time with high quality keeping the Product Team happy.
Other Duties
- Provide training and coaching to new team members as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or combination of relevant education and experience.
- 3-5 years experience working within Scrum teams with 3+ years as a Scrum Master.
- Proven experience on multiple small Scrum teams required.
- Experience in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies and transitioning teams from Waterfall to Agile.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse personality types.
- Ability to understand technical issues at a high level.
- Thorough understanding of Agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures.
- Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision and with other department personnel.
- Must have exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Must be self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills in English, including both writing and speaking.
Preferred Qualifications
- POS Terminal experience a strong plus.
- Experience in Rally highly preferable.
- Scrum Master Certification - (Required Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM1), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) or SAFe Agilist (SA) depending on certifying organization).
- Competency with Google Suite applications and other collaboration tools.
- Is viewed as a local expert on Lean, Agile, and Systems Thinking.
- Has 2+ years experience implementing and working with other Lean / Agile principles/frameworks.
