We are seeking a skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our rapidly growing team at Kontempo. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in backend development, particularly with Node.js, TypeScript, and cloud services, and be comfortable collaborating across teams in a fast-moving startup environment.

Kontempo has built the first payments and credit software designed specifically for Mexico’s leading industrial companies. We noticed that most suppliers of plastics, chemicals, concrete, and glass (to name a few) used software to run their logistics operations, accounting processes, and sales functions, but almost none had modern software to power their credit and collection systems. So, we set out to change this, believing that a critical function that involves financial risk and can also help close a big sale should be powered by the latest technologies and not run on slow, outdated spreadsheets or paper notebooks (yes, we’ve actually seen this).

Having launched almost three years ago, we are moving fast to tackle this massive opportunity of the $300 billion market for trade credit in Mexico. We’re already working with thousands of companies across the country and are steadily growing our team of experts in technology, risk, and supply chain finance. At Kontempo you’ll get to:

Work with a team to develop new systems while reporting directly to the CTO.

Build and implement new features for existing systems.

Maintain and update existing systems.

Participate in system design and specification, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and support.

Commit to team coordination for collaborative problem-solving, design and architecture decisions, and development of infrastructure.

Implement automated unit and integration tests and ensure the practice is followed consistently.

Provide analysis of problems and recommend solutions.

Interact with merchants and lead technical solution meetings.

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Fluent in Spanish and English.

Thorough understanding of backend technologies.

Experience in designing and developing web services.

Understanding of issue tracking systems, such as Jira.

Familiarity with the nature of asynchronous programming and its quirks and workarounds.

Basic understanding of accessibility and security compliance.

Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to break down and communicate complex issues, ideas, and solutions.

Ability to clearly document application designs and related management and support procedures.

Ability to quickly learn or use new/emerging technologies as required.

Preferred qualifications:

Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and cloud services.

Experience with MongoDB and noSQL databases.

Knowledge of message queues (e.g., SQS, RabbitMQ) and asynchronous processing.

Proven experience in building and maintaining APIs.

Knowledge of transaction management and ensuring data consistency.
